Domaine des Chanssaud Châteauneuf-du-Pape White 2019

70% Clairette, 30% Grenache blanc

Certified Organic grower. Sandy, clay soils with some stones on north-facing slopes which brings a pleasing freshness to the wine.

Light golden in colour. The perfumed nose reveals aromas of white flowers, citrus and pear. On the palate, the wine is full but not too rich, elegant without being too showy. The finish is long, crisp and dense at the same time. This complex white demands food and goes very well with poultry or fish in sauce or certain shellfish such as prawns, lobsters, etc.

Producer profile

Elodie Jaume is the 6th generation of a wine growing family having taken over the reigns of the estate from her father Patrick. The estate covers 35 hectares, of which 14ha are located in the northern sector of Châteauneuf du Pape and 21ha in Côtes du Rhône. The terroir of Châteauneuf du Pape is predominantly sandy with clay and large rounded rocks, partly on a raised plateau, and partly on a north-facing slope descending from the plateau. The average vine age is approximately 60 yrs old and the oldest vines in Châteauneuf du Pape are used to produce their “Chanssaud d’Antan” cuvée in the best years. Some of the Côtes du Rhône terroir is located on the northern boundary of Châteauneuf du Pape and thus produces a very high class Côtes du Rhône, labelled as “Charles de Valois”. The property has been certified Organic since 2015. The reds are fermented in concrete and the Châteauneuf du Pape reds are matured in a mixture of concrete and foudres (very large oak casks). The white Châteauneuf du Pape is a full-bodied wine that marries extremely well with white meat and cheese.
